About the category

The region is home to five world leading universities, all of which have entrepreneurship and Innovation Programmes that help to spin out start up businesses. This category is for university spinouts that are making an impact in innovation.

What do we want to know: 

In this category we want to understand how the spinout is making waves in innovation, utilising ground breaking research or expertise to further a sector or technology. Some things to consider in your application:

• Is the business tackling a problem or challenge that has been holding back a sector or society?
• Is it developing a product or service that is bettering the lives of individuals or communities?
• How has being spun-out of one of our regional universities helped the business in it’s success?
• How is it innovating in a responsible way, managing the impact it has on people, place and the environment? If this is a significant success, could you also apply for our Sustainable Innovation Award? 
• Has it attracted interest from investors to raise finance?
• What is the impact the business has had to date, and is it on track to meet it’s growth ambitions?
