North East Local Enterprise Partnership

The North East Local Enterprise Partnership (NELEP) is the fourth largest LEP in the UK, covering the local authority areas of County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

NELEP is a business-led, strategic vehicle, responsible for promoting and developing economic growth in the North East. The Board is comprised of business leaders, all seven local authority leaders, and further and higher education representatives.

NELEP is engaged in a significant amount of activity to stimulate economic growth. For example, their work relates to Enterprise Zone management; a strong strategic role. NELEP is leading the development of the new European Strategy; developing a strategic and ambitious approach to innovation; managing a £55m North East Investment Fund; leading on the Skills Action Plan; and working with partners to maximise economic growth prospects in the North East.
