Innovation Manager – Access to Finance

The Innovation SuperNetwork is a unique regional programme, helping to cultivate a stronger innovation eco-system in the North East of England and support innovative businesses. The programme works through a partnership of over 50 organisations, including the North East LEP, North of Tyne Combined Authority, Innovate UK, North East BIC, Northumbrian Water, local universities, innovation support organisations and private businesses. The SuperNetwork is part-funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The SuperNetwork includes:

  • High profile events to raise aspiration and innovation expertise amongst regional businesses;
  • An active access to finance programme to connect regional innovative businesses with investors;
  • Support for regional business clusters and networks to increase levels of innovation;
  • Linking businesses with sources of expertise and support;
  • An open innovation programme, connecting regional businesses with innovation challenges posed by larger businesses and the public sector.

The primary way we deliver innovation support is through Innovation Managers. These are highly experienced individuals with an in-depth understanding of their fields. Most have a specialist background (including science, technology, engineering, finance, entrepreneurship, open innovation, or design thinking) combined with commercial experience. All are driven by a desire to see the region thrive through applied innovation.

A significant part of our work is in connecting innovative businesses with suitable investors through programmes like our Access to Finance programme, Regional Angel Investment Accelerator and other investment networks. We are also launching a new programme, focusing on increasing the levels of Angel investment in local businesses and in particular, to accelerate specialist clusters of digital enterprise. This expansion in our activities means that we require a further Innovation Manager to join the team, with a focus on working with investors.

The role is high-profile, externally-focussed and with the potential to have a huge impact on our region.

The ideal person will have experience in working with investors and raising finance for innovative businesses. The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of the North East England economic development ecosystem, excellent communication skills, both on a one-to-one basis and in front of an audience, are crucial to the role, which will focus on building networks and connecting people. You will need to be motivated, organised and love working with people to make this work.

The salary level for the role is circa £40,000 plus pension.
