The Innovation SuperNetwork first collaborated with ParkingPerx at FinanceCamp in May 2018 and has been thrilled to see them go onto great success as a result, including appearing on BBC’s Dragons’ Den and securing an offer of £80,000 from investor Jenny Campbell.
ParkingPerx is an app which rewards users who shop on the local high street with free parking. The innovative idea led to the company taking part in FinanceCamp 2018 where businesses can take part in a series of ten-minute one-to-one meetings with investors and funders tailored to their business. In the lead-up to FinanceCamp, the Innovation SuperNetwork held investor-readiness workshops to help businesses prepare for their meetings, learn how to pitch and what investors expect from these meetings.
Chris Reed, Founder of ParkingPerx talks about how his journey at FinanceCamp led to significant success and growth for their business:
‘The journey to securing investment for ParkingPerx was very much influenced by the FinanceCamp programme. The opportunity to get to know how investors think, and hone my pitch with expert presentation pitching, gave me the skills and the confidence to beat more than 10k applications to not only get into the Den, but deliver a successful pitch which resulted in our business receiving an offer of £80,000 from Jenny Campbell.
Not only does FinanceCamp put you in front of a roomful of investors that would have taken months to organise in your own time, but their programme of support, mentoring and preparatory events are essential for businesses with growth objectives.’
Chris then joined us again at FinanceCamp in 2019, this time as a keynote speaker alongside his Dragons’ Den investor, Jenny Campbell. The pair shared their investment journey with delegates and demonstrated first-hand not only the impact investment can have on a business, but how building relationships with potential investors can provide vital funds as well as expert advice and support. Chris said of this opportunity:
‘It was very exciting having the chance to share my experience with fellow regional entrepreneurs embarking on their own investment journeys, especially because that’s where I started my journey a year previous. FinanceCamp is a great way for businesses to get in front of potential investors, mentors and support resources to help them achieve their objectives for growth. The opportunity to speak also helped to boost our profile and get exposure to a solid North East audience. I would really recommend businesses looking to grow to get involved in the Innovation SuperNetwork’s Access to Finance programme.’
