The Innovation SuperNetwork worked with Nuchido for the first time as part of the Entrepreneurs of the North event in March 2019. The event takes thirty innovative Northern businesses down to London to meet with investors as part of the SuperNetwork’s aim to increase investment in the North East.
Nuchido is a scientific anti-ageing company that translates breakthroughs in ageing research into products that promote healthspan. They are working to bring safe and effective anti-ageing products to market in timescales much shorter than pharmaceutically regulated products. Their fantastic innovation in the industry led to them being selected as one of the thirty businesses for Entrepreneurs of the North.
As part of the event, Nuchido pitched to a roomful of investors and funders before networking with them afterwards. Dr Nichola Conlon, CEO and Co-Founder of Nuchido, who joined us at Entrepreneurs of the North talks about how the event led to significant investment and business growth:
‘We applied to be part of Entrepreneurs of the North because it seemed like a good opportunity to get access to the wide pool of investment that is available in the capital. It was also a chance for us to increase our exposure to a wider audience and help us get more recognition nationally.
The event was really well organised and gave us a platform to tell our story and talk about the work that we do in front of an audience we wouldn’t have had access to otherwise.
After our pitch we spoke with an investor whilst networking. As a result, he has since significantly invested in Nuchido and introduced us to another investor who has done the same. This has been a huge breakthrough for us as it has led to business growth and getting our product to market. We were able to launch in October and in the first month shipped to over 33 countries worldwide.
It wasn’t just the investors who proved to be important connections though, we also met with people who invested time into our business by sharing their knowledge and introducing us to their connections. The exposure at the event also led to an increase in profile, not only for Nuchido but also helped me get my name known, which has proved invaluable.
Since Entrepreneurs of the North, Nuchido has seen great success, which led to us applying for the Innovation SuperNetwork’s Innovation Showcase as part of VentureFest North East in November 2019. We were one of thirteen businesses selected to exhibit as part of the Showcase at the region’s innovation conference at St James’ Park, Newcastle where there were over 700 delegates.
Being part of this was a great opportunity for us to network and get access to a lot of local initiatives and contacts that we didn’t necessarily know about. As a result, we met with RTC North who are now helping us access grant funding which will help us grow our team by employing more staff, including a full-time marketeer. If we hadn’t been part of VentureFest North East, we wouldn’t have even known about these regional opportunities that are available. We are a busy team so having so much in one place was invaluable to us. The promotion and exposure we got as being part of the Innovation Showcase also helped us boost our profile even further. For businesses looking to grow, I would highly recommend taking part in Innovation SuperNetwork’s events.’
