Mobile APP required for IoT Building Automation

Axon Systems are specialists in Building Automation and have developed an IoT Gateway.

The Gateway communicates with Sensors and Actuators which use the EnOcean Radio Protocol (ERP). The ERP consists of telegrams as defined by the EEP (EnOcean Equipment Profiles).

The hardware has been designed by Axon from scratch, so they have full control over the code and programming.

The Gateway communicates with field devices that operate under the EnOcean profile. Most of these devices are very similar and are variants of common devices, such as a light switch with 1 or 2 switches, or a humidity sensor etc.

Axon have developed a Representational State Transfer (REST) Application Programming Interface (API), which will allow the control and configuration of devices learnt into the Gateway via the internet.

Project Overview:
Axon Systems wish to develop a remote, mobile app-based interface which interacts with the gateway device to allow clients to manage and monitor their devices.

Axon Systems are wishing to outsource the development of a mobile application component to an external organisation for development. The appointed developer of the mobile application will be required to ensure that the API is fully capable of meeting the requirements established in the ‘Functional Specification’ which can be requested subject to the signing of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Within the Functional Specification will outline the project requirements for the design and finalisation of an API specification which conforms to REST standards.

The functionality of the mobile application will include monitoring and validation of control points, which have been configured to work with the IoT Gateway. This will include data manipulation, the display of various metrics, and time series data.

Minimum Version Requirements:

  • iOS 12
  • Android App to support at least 4.4 (KitKat)

Implementation Constraints
As the communication and integration with the Gateway is a new project that has been developed from scratch, there are no constraints on the implementation technologies. The only constraint is that the application must be capable of integrating with the Axon API.

How to respond:
Please develop a proposal based around the criteria provided in the Functional Specification which is available on request subject to the signing of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
Submission of full tender via email should be to no later than 7th September 2021. If you have any questions regarding this tender opportunity, please contact Anthony Duffy via email on

Please include the following in your response:

  • An overview of the company/individual submitting the proposal
  • Detail on how you will deliver the required specification
  • Timescales for development
  • At least 2 examples of relevant/similar work you have carried out within the last three years
  • Price structure

How we will select a provider:
We will use the following criteria to select a provider for this work:

Criteria Weighting
Demonstrable expertise within app development relative to Building Automation and IoT 30%
Quality of proposal against tender specification 30%
Value for money 20%
Ability of company/individual 20%

Due Diligence you will be required to:

  • Technical/Product specification will only be released to providers who can demonstrate experience in IoT relative to Building Automation.
  • Sign an NDA (if one hasn’t already been signed when requesting further information).
  • Sign a contract that ensures that all IP will be sign over to Axon Systems Ltd.
  • Undertake a PQQ process in line with our funders.
