Communications Manager

Based in Sunderland and working in the North East of England

Full time, permanent contract

£35,000 per year plus pension

 

Innovate NE is the not-for-profit company that delivers the high profile Innovation SuperNetwork, VentureFest, FinanceCamp and Innovation Challenge programmes in North East England. Bringing together over 50 partner organisations, ranging from national government to small businesses, our programmes are right in the public eye and connect over 1000 innovators, investors, researchers and experts every year.

Given this high profile, how we communicate our work and how we engage partners in what we do is crucial. We have been very successful so far in attracting businesses to events and in engaging partners but our ambition is to grow our networks even further in the coming years. It is against this backdrop that we are recruiting for our new Communications Manager.

It’s not easy to categorise our comms activity. We do everything you’d expect, like writing content for press articles, running a busy website and being really active on social media. We also sometimes buy space in print and online, where this fits specific objectives. What sets us apart though is the strength of our partnerships, where we can connect with an audience of tens of thousands of businesses, rather than the five thousand or so in our direct network. This means that the right person for the Communications Manager role will need to have an understanding of all relevant channels, with a particular emphasis on stakeholder engagement.

The Communications Manager has responsibility for one direct report, who is particularly focused on our owned media channels. The role also includes budgetary responsibility. However, none of us are pure strategists and everyone in the team is expected to get stuck in to delivery on a day to day basis. In particular, we run a few large events each year where the whole team get involved and promoting these events is a key part of the role.
