Innovation award winners discuss success one year on
North East Innovation Awards

2018 marked the launch of the North East Innovation Awards. Part of VentureFest North East, the awards delivered by Innovation SuperNetwork in partnership with RTC North, recognise stand-out examples of innovation and celebrate the area’s most important sectors – manufacturing, energy, healthcare and digital.

The response to the awards was overwhelming and presented judges with the difficult task of selecting a winner from six categories including Digital Innovation which went to Sunderland based business, Geek Talent. Recruitment insight specialists, the company provides real-time insight into the UK job market and skills landscape.

One year on Dominic Murphy, managing director of Geek Talent, said: “We were thrilled to win last year’s award. It is great to see that innovation is being recognised within the region and that we are regarded as one of the most innovative companies in the North East.

“It was a morale boost for the whole team, and we were proud to receive the award in receipt of the work that we do. We wish the 2019 award entrants the very best of luck.”

Professor Roy Sandbach OBE of Newcastle University was crowned Innovation Champion of 2018 at the awards. He added: “I was delighted and humbled to accept this award last year. VentureFest North East is a central part of the overall innovation strategy for the region. It is a vital networking opportunity, providing the canvas for innovators from many sectors to come together and discuss shared business opportunities.

“I am very pleased to see it going from strength to strength and I would encourage innovators in the business, academic and public sector communities to get along.”
