Head of Digital – Cluster Development
North East England
Full-time, or flexible working options available, including part-time/job share
£50,000 annual equivalent, plus pension

Are you passionate about helping to grow the Digital sector and leading the delivery of on-the-ground innovation support to SMEs who have the potential to be digital game changers?

North of Tyne Combined Authority’s (NTCA) Digital Cluster Development Programme marks significant investment to accelerate the growth of innovative small and medium-sized digital businesses across Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland.

The Head of Digital’s primary role is to ensure that digital clusters focus this investment on global market demands whilst delivering tangible economic impact, locally.

Innovation SuperNetwork is on a mission to increase the innovation capability of SMEs across North East England and will deliver this Digital Cluster Development programme in partnership with Dynamo North East and Health Network North.

Ideal candidates will have experience in working with senior stakeholders, large organisations, and SMEs, with the ability to quickly get up to speed with Digital innovation sectors in the region. Also key are: experience managing large-value publicly funded projects, an understanding of intensive business support and innovation strategy in economic development; excellent communication skills (one-to-one and with varied audiences); being able to shape programme strategy; self-organised and able to establish trusting working relationships with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders.

We want to hear from people who can build on the success of the digital clusters already established by Dynamo North East and its members, and ensure that these, plus any newly defined clusters, are primed to deliver the high value jobs, social impact and economic value needed.

Key result areas for the Head of Digital include:

  1. Driving the growth of the Digital sector by ensuring that the digital innovation clusters with greatest potential are developed to deliver return on NTCA’s innovation investment.
  2. Working with a team of Cluster Innovation Managers to deliver a multi-element programme of intensive innovation support for SMEs.
  3. Ensuring strong relationships are in place with key private and public sector organisations, academic, and VCSO leaders, to foster the strongest possible collaboration for long term cluster success.
  4. Leading and shaping a high performing team of cluster innovation managers.
  5. Being accountable for the delivery of key programme milestones and outputs for the duration of the funded programme, to Summer 2024.

You will be joining and hiring into a team of highly experienced individuals with strong capability to deliver intensive SME innovation support and programme management. All are driven by a desire to see the region thrive through innovation.

The Head of Digital role is pivotal to successful programme delivery, with an opportunity to work with some breakthrough digital innovators and leverage the talent within the partnership teams.

The salary level for the role is £50,000 annual equivalent plus pension. Pro rata’d for a part time option.

We are a flexible-first employer and keen to hear from anyone interested in delivering the role either full time part time, or job share capacity.

If delivered as part of a job share, it is anticipated that 60% of the full time commitment will be required for overall programme leadership, key stakeholder management and team coaching, alongside a proportionate SME support caseload. A 40% role would be needed to drive key aspects of programme management, evidencing outputs and managing programme governance. Other flexible working options will also be considered.

If this opportunity is for you, in whole or in part, the first step is to send us your CV and a covering letter explaining how you fit with the role, to recruitment@supernetwork.org.uk by Thursday 6th January 2022.
