Finance and Compliance Officer – AAT Level 1-2

Flexible location / home-based with access to Sunderland office of Innovate NE as required.

£22,000 pro rata per year plus pension

15 hours per week with flexible working options. Fixed term until Summer 2023, possibility of contract extension

The Innovation SuperNetwork supports North East businesses to successfully bring innovative new products or services to market. Our team works with a network of over 50 partnership organisations, including the North East LEP, Innovate UK, local universities, innovation support organisations and private businesses. The SuperNetwork is part-funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and North of Tyne Combined Authority.

We are looking for an individual to join us as Finance and Compliance Officer. The role is new in the team and will support the Head of Finance in accounting for delivery of publicly-funded contracts.

The Finance and Compliance Officer will be assisting with:

  • Accurate maintenance of all financial records and systems, including sales and purchase ledgers, credit control, bank inputs & reconciliation, staff expenses, company credit card and online bank payments.
  • Monitoring & updating partner renewals.
  • Financial audit preparation, financial data analysis and filing.
  • Collating Compliance evidence and administration activities to ensure project reporting requirements are met.
  • Monitoring procurement activities and reporting, including verification of invoices and supplier payments.
  • Subsidy Control financial checks including due diligence for businesses receiving financial and non-financial support through key programmes.
  • Collating, filing and storing relevant project financial data.
  • Internal or external audits.
  • Assisting with online funding claims process.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve, digitise and automate core finance & administration processes.

We are a small team with an entrepreneurial and flexible approach. At the same time, we deliver complex projects utilising public funding, which require attention to detail. This means the ideal candidate will enjoy ensuring quality and accuracy of financial systems and keeping positive working relationships with colleagues and customers.

The ideal person for this role will be AAT Level 1 or 2 qualified with experience gained in a finance departmental role.

Candidates should be highly conscientious, organised and good communicators in person, in writing and online.
