Durham has truly world class academics working across the Science Faculty, particularly on a broad range of materials systems, including soft and hard materials, electronic and quantum materials, surfaces, interfaces and complex systems. It is recognised as a leader in the field of surface science which underpins formulation technology.

Durham’s Research & Innovation Services comprises four teams working closely together: The Business Engagement team concentrates on developing new business activity and partnerships with business and industry and includes the Consultancy and Analytical Services; the Research Commercialisation team is tasked with the commercialisation of research outputs and handles patents, licensing and spin-out companies.
